Law firm seeks a Litigation Paralegal with 7 years of experience. Selected candidate will work in the Education practice group. Specific experience with education law is a plus, but is not required. Paralegal will be responsible for case intake, document reviews and coding, drafting of various legal documents, responding to discovery, legal and fact research, summarizing records, hearing preparation and assistance, and timeline preparations.
Responsibilities include monitoring case progress; knowledge of court rules, and (learning) the Education Code and statutes concerning student education. The Litigation Paralegal will assist with discovery and manage documents and other case-related materials; perform cite checking, drafting and proofreading of briefs and other legal documents; and draft notices, subpoenas, motions, and declarations. Additional responsibilities include preparing witness memoranda; reviewing and summarizing depositions and transcripts; maintaining privilege logs; assisting with exhibits; and filing pleadings and briefs.
The Litigation Paralegal will also manage case and trial calendars; assist with trial preparation, determining applicable jury instructions and research, participation in the voir dire process, creating trial notebooks, witness lists and schedules. Candidate will draft pretrial statements and settlement conference memoranda, and assist at trial by maintaining TrialDirector and TrialPad, taking notes, maintaining exhibits; serving as liaison between attorneys and litigation support team to build electronic databases; and preparing post-trial documents.
Candidate must possess strong organizational, reasoning and research skills; strong attention to detail and excellent written/verbal communication abilities. Must have the flexibility, composure and ability to prioritize many simultaneous urgent requests with a high level of competence and accuracy while remaining professional under demanding circumstances. Paralegal will have sensitivity to ethical and confidentiality requirements and work effectively as a member of a team. This position has a billable hours requirement. The shift is 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The qualified Litigation Trial Paralegal must have a four year degree or equivalent work experience; and an ABA approved paralegal certificate or attorney attestation. Selected candidate must have expert-level knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, and deadlines, and exercise discretion. The Paralegal will have experience with Concordance, Eclipse, TextMap, TrialDirector (or similar programs), and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
