Litigation Trial Paralegal

Law firm seeks a Litigation Paralegal with 7 years of trial experience. Selected candidate will perform a wide range of legal work for municipal clients at the direction and supervision of attorneys practicing municipal law (water, environmental and eminent domain) and personal injury defense of public agencies. Preferred candidate will have municipal law experience, but candidates with expertise in intellectual property, antitrust, employment and labor law, environmental law, and bankruptcy will be considered. The Paralegal will be responsible for case intake, document review and coding, drafting of legal documents, responding to discovery, legal and fact research, summarizing records, trial preparation and assistance, and timeline preparations. Other duties include collecting, analyzing and utilizing information to make independent decisions and recommendations to supervising attorneys, and preparing documents.
Candidate will assist with law and motion practice drafting and assembling motions and exhibits; filings of pleadings/briefs and ensuring proper service; assisting during meetings, hearings, depositions, arbitrations, and mediations; and communicating with opposing counsel and court staff; calendar requirements for each matter and ensure proper maintenance of required case calendars; prepare trial subpoenas and on-call agreements, determine applicable jury instructions; participation in the voir dire process; create trial notebooks; organize exhibits; prepare and coordinate witness lists and schedules; draft pleadings, prepare and supervise vendor preparation of graphs and demonstrative exhibits. Candidate will attend trial to take notes and handle demonstrative exhibits; serve as main liaison between trial attorneys and litigation support team; and create and maintain electronic databases. The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The qualified Trial Preparation Paralegal must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, and an ABA paralegal certificate or attorney attestation. Selected candidate must be proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and familiar with various trial/database software. Solid trial experience is required. Expertise in legal terminology, procedures, deadlines, and the ability to exercise discretion with complex issues is required. Ideal candidate must think analytically, prioritize multiple requests, and consistently provide an accurate and high quality work product. This position has a billable hours requirement of 1500 per year.
