Position: Attorney Training Manager

Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid, 2 days onsite)

Pay: $130,000 to $150,000 annually

Experience: 5+ years of law firm experience to manage the training and professional development programs for associate and of counsel attorneys including developing, coordinating, and implementing training initiatives to enhance skills and career growth of associates, from first-year attorneys to senior associates.

Education: Bachelor’s degree is required; a JD or other advanced degree in law, business, or HR is preferred.

Type: Full-time; Direct Hire

Schedule: Day Shift, 9:00am to 5:00pm (Occasional travel and weekend work for events)

Job Description:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training strategy for associates, orientation, and training program for lateral associates, and a Rookie School curriculum to train incoming Fall Associates.
  • Design/organize training sessions, CLE programs, and workshops to address current legal trends, litigation skills, case management, and business development.
  • Coordinate speakers and faculty for specialized training programs/CLE opportunities.
  • Develop and implement monthly training programs and “lunch-and-learn” sessions across all US offices.
  • Source, plan, and implement external programs with legal training vendors.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with local Attorney Development Partners to ensure junior associate engagement and receipt of a broad range of projects/opportunities.
  • Collaborate with practice group leaders to develop and deliver overviews of the firm’s various practice areas.
  • Organize structured introductory sessions, panels, and networking opportunities to facilitate exposure to practice groups and their leadership.
  • Assist with staffing assignments and help associates navigate processes for expressing interest in specific practice matters.
  • Partner with senior attorneys and mentors to provide guidance, feedback, and support as associates begin integration into client work and practice groups.
  • Work with the Director of Professional Development to assist in the preparation of associate year-end performance reviews (compiling feedback, identifying training needs, and tracking progress on developmental goals).
  • Track progress on individual development plans and ensure associates have the necessary resources to meet professional development goals.
  • Identify areas for future skill development and emerging trends in litigation.
  • Work with the Director of Professional Development to develop programs aimed at preparing associates for partnership (business development training and leadership skill-building).
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, using feedback and performance data; track attendance, participation, and learning outcomes for training initiatives.
  • Work on various ad hoc projects and perform any other assignments.

Position Requirements:
  • Proven experience in creating, managing, and delivering training and development programs for legal professionals.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide feedback to improve training programs; handle sensitive performance feedback with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and growing environment.
  • Must work collaboratively and maintain strong internal working relationships and have a strong understanding of law firm structures, attorney roles, and the associate career trajectory, particularly in litigation.
  • Knowledge of the legal industry’s continuing education requirements and professional development standards is preferred.
