Position:Â Conflicts AttorneyÂ
Location:Â Century City, CA (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)Â
Pay: $155,000 to $185,000 annuallyÂ
Experience:Â 3+ years of experience within a mid-to-large, multi-practice law firm to facilitate the resolution process for conflicts of interest related to firm business.Â
Education:Â Juris Doctor degree and active bar status in the State of California is required.Â
Type: Full-time; Direct Hire Â
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm (OT as needed to participate in on-call rotation to respond by phone to after-hours emergency conflict checks)Â

Job Description:Â Â Â Â
- Conflicts Analysis & Resolution to conduct comprehensive conflicts-of-interest reviews for new clients, new matters, client updates, marketing projects, and lateral hires.Â
- Identify actual and potential conflicts for existing and prospective clients, performing in-depth legal analysis under applicable Rules of Professional Responsibility.Â
- Research conflict parties using internal systems and external databases (e.g., Hoover’s, D&B, Lexis, EDGAR) and interpret results to assess business and ethical risks.Â
- Recommend and implement conflict-resolution strategies, including ethical walls, disclosures, consent letters, and engagement modifications.Â
- Draft and maintain conflict waivers, disclosures, engagement letter language, and supporting documentation.Â
- Serve as an escalation point to the Ethics Committee; troubleshoot complex conflict issues through resolution.Â
Ethics & Risk ManagementÂ
- Provide legal analysis and recommendations to the Ethics Committee, firm management, and attorneys regarding conflict issues and risk implications.Â
- Identify business concerns that require further analysis and review.Â
- Review and analyze OCG guidelines and engagement letters for conflict-related provisions; advise on restrictions, required screens, and necessary updates to internal data.Â
- Identify when ethical screens are required and recommend the scope.Â
- Draft client communications related to conflict issues and ethical obligations.Â
- Review conflict waivers and engagement letters to confirm compliance with professional responsibility rules and firm policies.Â
- Maintain thorough documentation of conflict decisions and ensure compliance with regulatory, ethical, and firm standards.Â
Lateral Hiring SupportÂ
- Conduct conflicts analysis for lateral attorney candidates, assessing client and matter histories across practice groups.Â
- Recommend resolutions to Division Managers and the Ethics Committee; communicate with lateral candidates and internal attorneys to resolve conflicts.Â
- Draft consent letters as needed and document conflict resolutions before and after onboarding.Â
Data Integrity & ComplianceÂ
- Ensure conflicts data is current and accurately maintained.Â
- Monitor federal and state regulatory developments affecting conflicts processes; update internal procedures and databases accordingly.Â
- Review firm RFPs, FOIA requests, deposition room requests, and similar inquiries to ensure conflicts are vetted prior to engagement.Â
- Review conflicts associated with firm personnel serving on boards or external committees.Â
Training, Communication & MonitoringÂ
- Educate attorneys and legal staff on ethical obligations, conflicts procedures, new business intake, and client relationship considerations.Â
- Communicate clearly and effectively with partners, attorneys, leadership, and administrative teams on conflict findings and recommendations.Â
- Monitor industry news, business developments, and weekly court dockets to identify events potentially affecting current client relationships; notify Ethics Committee and management of risks.Â
- Advise on improvements to conflicts processes, systems, and data quality.Â
Position Requirements:Â
- Must understand conflicts of interest, including Rules of Professional Conduct and state professional responsibility rules, and ethics issues involving government entities. Â
- Possess knowledge of federal, state, and municipal government organizational structures with strong computer aptitude. Â
- Must have exceptional communication skills, including the ability to make persuasive arguments and present nuanced analyses to all levels of firm leadership with strong negotiation skills and consultative approach when working with attorneys/staff. Â
- Possess high level of discretion, judgment, and diplomacy in handling sensitive and confidential information; have strong attention to detail and work effectively in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines. Â
- Proven ability to collaborate as part of a cross-functional team and to work independently; ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions. Â
- Commitment to continuous improvement, process efficiencies, and automation where applicable.Â
