Position: Contract/Outside Counsel Guidelines Specialist
Pay: $95,000 to $100,000 annually
Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA (Fully onsite for training 4 – 8 weeks, then hybrid 1 day onsite)
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in outside counsel management, legal eBilling or pricing, financial analytics, matter management) in a law firm or corporate legal environment.
- At least 3 years of eBilling experience to support the client intake, consistent billing guidelines and engagement letter review process.
Type: Full-time; Direct Hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am to 5:30pm
Kent Daniels & Associates is seeking a Contract/Outside Counsel Guidelines Specialist to join our dynamic law firm client.
Job Description:
- Reviewing firm engagement letters to ensure adherence to basic firm compliance requirements, the review of client outside counsel guidelines to identify firm provisions requiring Executive Committee approval or terms the firm does not agree to.
- Closely involved in reviewing, summarizing, and potentially negotiating outside counsel guidelines directly with clients upon partner request, redlining engagement letters, and acting as liaison between partners and clients.
- Assisting with the implementation of contract AI software to optimize the review process and working with firm Intake team in the set up and implementation of any agreed cost exceptions, billing rules, and necessary billing instructions to ensure clients are billed based upon agreed terms.
- Work closely with the collections team to identify the most common client deductions to strategically implement process improvements and simplification to ensure billings comply with client agreements to reduce, if not eliminate short payments deriving from client guidelines and other billing issues as identified.
Position Requirements:
- Outstanding project or program management skills, including the ability to set and meet deadlines and keep clear and organized records.
- Familiarity with implementing and operating other common legal technology solutions.
- Comfort with synthesizing large data sets, sourced from differing systems.
- Exceptional communication skills and strong creative problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with individuals at all levels in the organization and build positive relationships with business partners.
- Effective decision-making skills, including the ability to choose a course of action in situations involving substantial uncertainty and risk.
- Experience with Elite 3E, Brightflag, Legal Tracker, SimpleLegal, strongly preferred.
