Job Description

Law firm seeks a Controller with 5 years of law firm or professional services experience to maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger (G/L), improvement of internal controls and compliance with trust account and banking rules.  Position will drive accounting operations, coordinate all review/audit processes with CPA firm, ensure accuracy of firm financial information, support regulatory and tax compliance including partnership and jurisdictional tax filings.
Duties include planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions, procedures and processes; reviewing G/L to ensure books and records accurately reflect account balances and transactions; assessing current accounting operations, making recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes; managing internal control reviews, improvements and process changes; performing month- and year-end processes; completing federal, state and local government compliance requirements including: multi-state tax analysis, PTE taxes, business tax returns, property tax and other jurisdictional filings/audits; supporting cash management and banking relationships; and retirement plan operations working with the Director of Finance, Human Resources,  Retirement Plan Committee, financial institutions, plan recordkeeper and investment advisors to support the ongoing maintenance, compliance and strategic goals of the plans.  Position also supports partner compensation process.

Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Position is hybrid, flexible

Job Requirements

A Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics is required, CPA is a plus.  Advanced computer software skills, including accounting software packages, expert level Microsoft Excel skills with experience using various database querying tools, Xcelerate and Microsoft Power BI or comparable enterprise software is needed – candidates with Elite 3E are highly preferred.  Controller must be able to establish and revise processes focusing on improvements, controls and compliance while leading efforts to automate and re-engineer existing processes with technical expertise around accounting functions.  This position requires advanced critical thinking skills; ability to provide solutions as a trusted partner to the Director of Finance; and comfort interacting with Firm leadership and other executive stakeholders.
