Job Description
Location: Remote with requirements to be in the office once a month (office can be RIV, OC, DTLA).
Pay: $75,000 to $85,000 annually
Experience: 7+ years of Labor and Employment experience (Education) to assist attorneys in education matters (special education due process administrative hearings; various superior or district court hearings, appellate court matters; pre-litigation liability risk investigations)
Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) and ABA approved paralegal certificate are required.
Type: Full-time; Direct Hire
Schedule: Day Shift, 9am to 5:30pm
Kent Daniels & Associates is seeking a Paralegal to join our dynamic law firm client!
Job Description:
- Responsibilities include case management and monitor progression of cases from inception to close.Utilize document review databases, (iPro, Relativity) for searching and producing documents and preparing reports for attorneys.
- Perform cite checking and proof reading of briefs.
- Manage discovery process (document collection, drafting notices and subpoenas, preparing for deposition, propounding and responding to written discovery, preparing for expert discovery, drafting discovery motions, drafting witness and attorney declarations).
- Preparing witness interview memoranda, reviewing and summarizing documents (deposition and court transcripts and preparing and maintaining privilege logs).
- Drafting and assembling motion papers and exhibits, assisting with filings of pleadings and briefs.
- Assist attorneys at trial to operate and maintain trial software (Trial Director and TrialPad for iPad software or other similar).
- Prepare post-trial documents, knowledge of drafting and serving abstracts of judgment, monitor and renew judgments, knowledge of best practices and legal tools for collections of judgments.
Position Requirements:
- Must have knowledge of the Education Code, Federal Regulations, special education due process hearings governed by the IDEA, NCLB, and state and federal court rules and procedures.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and online legal research tools (LexisNexis, Westlaw, SpecialEdConnection) is required.
- Must be organized, detail oriented, possess strong communication skills, and have ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity Westlaw, Pacer, Case Notebook, TrialPad for iPad.
- Familiarity with special education definitions and terminology is preferred.
