Job Description
Position: Code Enforcement Paralegal
Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA or Riverside, CA (Hybrid, 2 days in office after training)
Pay: $87,000 to $98,000 annually
Experience: 3 years of experience to support with the Code Enforcement practice with code research and administrative functions including preparing correspondence.
Education: Bachelor’s degree; paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, or other significant work experience such that statutory requirements are satisfied (Bus. & Prof. Code § 6450 compliant).
Type: Full-time; Direct Hire
Schedule: Day Shift, 9:00am to 5:30pm or 8:30am to 5:00pm
Kent Daniels & Associates is seeking a Code Enforcement Paralegal to join our dynamic law firm client!
Job Description:
- Assist with case and project management (coordinating with city department staff regarding investigations, managing documents from different city departments, and advising attorneys on status of investigations)
- Manage deadlines, documents, and workflow with attorneys on litigation matters.
- Provide guidance to city departments about how to effectively prepare records of investigations (enable civil litigation to support enforcement efforts).
- Assist in preparing pleadings (gathering exhibits, ensuring documents are accurate, properly formatted, and filed).
- Assist in drafting and reviewing subpoenas, all forms of discovery documents, legal memoranda, and correspondence.
- Assist with discovery and with collecting, managing, reviewing, and organizing documents obtained from litigants and city departments.
- Review and comprehend specialized documents relevant to the code team’s work (property records, administrative enforcement records, police reports, building plans and reports).
- Organize, review and prepare documents, exhibits, transcripts and other materials for investigations, depositions, hearings or trial, including preparing and running Trial Director.
- Working knowledge of state and municipal codes; legal procedures, legal terminology, court rules and law office practice and procedure is required.
- Must have proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage high volume of cases.
- Experience working in or with regulatory agencies or criminal law enforcement agencies and knowledge of discovery rules and processes is a plus.
- Experience with iTimekeep, CMS Aderant, Trial Director, Adobe Professional or other similar software is preferred.
