Job Description


Law firm seeks a Research Librarian with 5 years of law firm library experience.  This will be the firm's primary resource for reference assistance and research on specific legal issues including competitive intelligence information and support.  Candidate will provide library outreach and training on practice development and research products; respond to attorney and staff inquiries for quick information and document delivery; provide in-depth research and analysis on discrete legal issues upon request from attorneys; and examine corporate information and transactional data to support questions concerning companies and their operation.  Candidate will compile official and media background information for statutes and regulations, usually preliminary to outsourcing a full history; identify resources and develop research strategies for associates, staff attorneys, summer associates, fellows, paralegals and other internal parties; locate people, assets and personal histories in party, witness and expert searches. 

The Research Librarian will compile and analyze corporate and personal data for potential clients and opposing parties in consideration of new matters and requests for proposals; similar research for potential lateral hires; support attorneys and the practice development department with litigation spotting, issue tracking, and case monitoring, using automated and conventional resources.  The Legal Librarian will build attorney and staff skills with structured training modules and one-on-one instruction; design and maintain the library intranet pages and other tools to facilitate research, retrieval, and current awareness among all internal parties; and work with practice group leaders to identify information and service needs, evaluate potential new resources, and assess existing holdings. 

The hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Position is hybrid, 1 - 3 days onsite, and may be based out of Los Angeles, San Francisco or District of Columbia branch offices.
 

Job Requirements

The Librarian must have strong organizational, communication and instructional skills, and experience in webpage design and content management.  Candidate must be able to adjust priorities according to urgency while maintaining a high level of customer service and accuracy.  A Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program or comparable degree is required.  Business and intellectual property research skills are desirable.  Fluency in computer-assisted research concepts and demonstrated proficiency with electronic research including legal, scientific, business and public records databases is required.
